Ludoteca Merced News

By Johanna Rehn | Volunteer

Hi!

Thanks to your great help we have continued our important work with the kids. Every week we have been able to keep daily workshops of cooking, music, geography, dancing and much much more. It is truly rewarding to see the how the kids are growing with their new knowledge, and most important, that they feel free to play and be themselves in the Ludoteca.

The last months we´ve been supported by volunteers from Germany, Sweden, France, Brazil and Mexico. It is a true resource for the kids, not just by the volunteers assistance and playfulness, but also by opening up to other cultures.

Here´s some of the events that we´ve made happen with the help of your donation.

We invited a film-maker that taught the kids how to use the camera, how to write a script and then create a whole movie together by being behind and in front of the camera. We also got to learn how to cut and put together music for the movie. Needless to say, it was a great week full of laughter, dressing up in fun costumes and acting out some inner zombies.

Another inspiring workshop was held by a professional street dancer who showed how to get those moves down and get into the groove.

When we were able to put up a theatre show on a Saturday and invite the whole neighborhood we were delighted.  The whole Ludoteca filled up with kids and adults and for days after the kids made cat sounds, inspired by the show.

In the end of each month we celebrate the kids birthdays of that month. This time we went for football almost all day, until we eat the delicious cake donated by a bakery and we sang the birthday song in different languages.

How important it is to have a safe and inspiring upbringing, and what a treasure it is to provide the Ludoteca for the kids of this area.We are grateful that we with the strength of you and many souls are making this happen, and that we can continue our work for many more days, months and hopefully years to come.

Gracias!
