Young Antiracist Leadership Project (YALP)

Thanks to the donations received, we have been able to train and guide young leaders from all over Mexico in the development of antiracist projects throughout this year.

The fourth generation of YALP received the training from July 28th To August 10th of last year, where young people from Chiapas, Zacatecas, Tamaulipas, Quintana Roo, Veracruz, among others, participated. In addition, they are taking mentorships with people who are experts in the topics of their projects and planning activities for their next implementation. 

These activities were not only educational but also inspiring for the young participants, who gained key tools to apply in their communities and in the projects they would develop afterward.

Implemented Projects 

Last November, we implemented one of the projects related to sports, in the State of Quintana Roo. The participant organized a basketball tournament with the youth community in Playa del Carmen, in collaboration with the municipal authorities and the state youth institute. More than 40 young people participated in this project, who played basketball and were part of the anti-racist workshops given by the project coordinator.

For the month of March, we have planned the implementation of another project related to sports. On this occasion, the coordinator of that project organized a race in Mexico City, where for now we already have a location to present ourselves, give a small workshop to the people who registered and do the race all together. This project will take place the third week of March within the framework of the International Day against Racial Discrimination.

The support from GlobalGiving has been essential for the young people in YALP 2024 to receive high-quality training and guidance in implementing their projects. The two-week training in Mexico City provided unique experiences in cultural and socially impactful spaces, while the mentorship program ensures that their ideas are transformed into tangible and sustainable projects.
