The Mark Bell Scholarship was created when Mark contacted us "Hey Michael, I'd like to send support to one of your projects. Send me some info. please." I gave him a list of many ongoing projects but a new idea for a scholarship. He responded by ming the first donation.
While we are operating in Japan, we also have Collaboratories (Collaboration Laboratories) in the Philippines, Ghana and now Brazil as many of the children in the homes we sponsors are multi-cultural. We do not want them to see themselves as "half" but double as they are double the people with double the cultures.
Currently, the candidates in the Philippines are two young men who finished high school. Both are orphans and we supported them to graduate. They work for us in the Manila office and one wants to apply for attending mechanical engineering and the other tourism. One has over 300,000 followers on social media and often posts about our organization to spread awareness as a Digital Citizen.
In Ghana, we met a teacher online who was drawing Microsoft Word on the chalkboard as his students did not have computers. We friended him on Facebook and since then have been funding the Wifi for the school and our teachers teach online how to make games from scratch.
As there is a high population of Brazilians in Japan, we have also started a project in Brazil with our Brazilian Japanese staff who are also pursuing their degrees as they work with us in Urban and Regional Development.
The scholarships are to help them understand that they are not alone and assist them with getting on with life. In agreement with receiving the scholarships, they will be available throughout the life of their education journey to share their stories and build their networks as they enter the working world.
Thank you very much for your support and we will keep you posted on the journey for these students in the spirit that Mark intended.
Regards,
Michael Perry-Clemons
