In this special update, we'd like to introduce you to Esogon Ekale, a tireless champion in our mission to save the northern white rhino. Esogon has cultivated a deep connection with Najin and Fatu, the last two of their kind.

A TYPICAL DAY

"Our days begin early," Esogon explains. "We work in 6-hour shifts, ensuring constant care for Najin and Fatu. I start by checking on their overnight resting spot, assessing their overall condition. I spend time observing their behavior, checking their dung, and inspecting their sleeping area. Once I'm satisfied, I begin their daily routine: feeding, hydrating, and closely monitoring their health."

THE POWER OF TEAMWORK

"We believe in the power of teamwork," Esogon says. "By sharing responsibilities, we ensure consistent care and minimize stress for the rhinos. If one of us is unavailable, the others can seamlessly step in. This collaborative approach helps maintain a stable environment and prevents the rhinos from becoming overly reliant on a single individual."

ADVICE FOR ASPIRING RANGERS

"Becoming a ranger is a calling, not just a job," Esogon advises. "It demands dedication and flexibility. You must be ready to respond to unexpected situations, as the well-being of the animals always comes first. By observing their behaviour, monitoring their health, and staying alert, you can truly make a difference in their lives."

We extend our deepest gratitude to all those who have generously support this project so far. Your support is invaluable and directly contributes to the vital work being done to save the northern white rhino from extinction.

Thanks to your contributions, we are able to continue these crucial efforts and remain hopeful that 2025 brings us closer to the goal of a northern white rhino calf.
