Xiaohusai is a student-run social enterprise, named after a village in southwest China and based in Shanghai. We partner with tea farmers from the Yunnan Province of southwest China by selling organic tea-leaves- sourced directly from their farms- and return 100% of the profits back to them. The funds collected often go towards merit-based scholarships for the village children, but infrastructural projects are included within our vision as well.
Typically, the children of Xiaohusai are forced to drop out of school and help their families with tea farming. For the village's poorest families, education is an impossible investment as tuition for two children can demand over 50% of their yearly income. Most members of the older generation have not received education past elementary school. The nearest middle and high schools are a tiresome two hours away; many children are sent to boarding school as early as age 7.
We're a student-run social enterprise based in Shanghai. By partnering with tea farmers from Xiaohusai, a village in southwest China, we sell organic tea sourced straight from their fields and ensure that their tea farmers are fairly paid. We guarantee that 100% of our profits go toward scholarships for tea farmers' children or infrastructural support for the village.
We have chosen to tackle several aspects of poverty, including fair pay, infrastructure, and education. By directly purchasing tea from Xiaohusai's farmers, we ensure that our suppliers are paid above-market wages and therefore, free from the grip of the conventional middleman. Our direct-trade approach is the shorter-term aspect of our solution, as our long-term objective is to invest in the education of Xiaohusai's children.
