Learning Lions empowers youth in remote, semi-arid regions of Northern Kenya with free, high-quality IT education. At our digital campus near Lake Turkana, young adults learn web development, design, and more, building sustainable digital careers from their home communities. Your support helps provide tools, training, and opportunities to break the cycle of poverty and unlock a future full of digital potential in young Africans.
Young people in remote, semi-arid regions of East Africa, like Turkana County, Kenya, face limited access to quality education, digital skills, and employment opportunities. Most families, both young and old, rely on fishing as a primary source of income, which is seasonal and often unreliable. Combined with poor infrastructure and limited economic activity, this leaves many trapped in a cycle of poverty.
This project will provide high-quality IT and digital media education through Learning Lions, equipping youth with in-demand skills such as web development, graphic design, and digital entrepreneurship. By training and mentoring these young adults in a fully equipped ICT campus, the project creates a pathway to remote freelance work and digital careers, right from their home region, reducing dependence on unstable local income sources like fishing.
Since the program began, Learning Lions has trained over 1,500 young adults, with more than 65% securing jobs or freelance work. By empowering youth with digital skills and remote earning potential, this project helps break the cycle of poverty and sparks a self-sustaining digital economy in marginalized communities. Graduates often become trainers and mentors, amplifying the impact. Over time, this model can be scaled to other underserved regions, proving that digital transformation is possible
