Sustaining Hope Through Action: IBC's Work in Afghanistan

By Anastasiia Karaoglu | Programs and Partnerships Officer

Despite an extremely challenging situation, especially for women and girls, IBC continues its operations in Afghanistan with determination, reaching thousands of people with humanitarian support.

Over the past two years, IBC has distributed food packages to struggling families and provided food assistance to Afghan refugees in the Balkh and Mazar-i-Sharif regions. Following the 2023 earthquake, IBC delivered emergency food supplies and tents to affected families. During both Ramadan and Eid al-Adha, IBC reinforced its solidarity efforts by distributing Ramadan food packages  and providing meat distributions to households in need. In the winter months, 150 families whose livestock perished due to extreme weather received emergency animal feed to help sustain their livelihoods. Thanks to the generous donations from you and our partners, we also distributed 50 meal packs and 50 winter packages during the winter months to families in need.

Beyond emergency relief, IBC is committed to sustainable, long-term solutions. The Vocational Training and Community Center in Kabul provided a safe and empowering space for both women and young men, celebrating its first cohort of graduates: 226 women completed tailoring and carpet weaving training, while 50 young men received carpentry training, earning official certifications and technical skills. Unfortunately, after women were prohibited from traveling unless accompanied by a male guardian, the training programs for women were forced to cease operations.

IBC remains committed to shaping its efforts in Afghanistan based on real needs on the ground. As the humanitarian crisis deepens, we are restlessly working on developing sustainable solutions and alternative pathways to ensure women and girls can continue to participate in our programs.
