All of our Board and most of our members are from Darfur, Sudan. We go to the US Bureau of Population Refugees and Migration website and find how many people arrived in which states each month. Then, using our extensive connections in the Darfuri American community, we locate and ask the new arrivals how many blankets, jackets, sweaters or sweatshirts they need, and send them along, for free, with guides to hygiene, goal setting and financial planning written by three of our Board members.
Newly arrived Darfuir refugees, often need winter clothing supplies, as well as having basic aspects of apartment cleaning, goal planning, and financial services (checking and savings accounts, credit and debit cards) explained to them.
Our Board and most of our members are from Darfur, Sudan, and so we speak their tribal languages and Arabic dialect. Three of our Board have written a guide to US life teaching goal planning, apartment cleaning and use of basic financial tools (checking and savings accounts, debit and credit cards). We locate new arrivals through our nationwide Darfuri-American network each month, ask and then send them free of charge our US guide and any winter clothes they need.
Refugees will have received clothes and US guides from a 501 (c) (3) charity run by their own people, proving to them that they can establish their own businesses in the US, profit or otherwise. Recipients of our help will also be introduced to our website, which has among other things a free translation-by-phone service.
