Dear Supporters,

First of all, we would like to express our gratitude for supporting our collaborative conservation campaign during these challenging times.

As George described in the previous report, our team stayed on Seram Island of the Malukus during the lockdown, where we conducted a detailed parrot census. Later, we managed to get back to the capital, Jakarta, where we have been spending most of our times with administrative tasks of the project. We just finished a report in Indonesian Bahasa about the census. With the help of Wildlife Messengers, we are also analysing this important information to publish it in an international peer-reviewed journal. With George, we are also working on a review paper about the Indonesian parrot trade.

Travel restrictions are still strict in Indonesia, but we looked at possibilities of getting back to the field and continuing with the original aim of this campaign, to deliver the documentary film to local communities where the rate of parrot trade is the highest. We would only do this responsibly and following local health requirements. However, these new restrictions (14-day quarantine after reaching eastern Indonesia and many COVID-19 tests before and after the flights) make the logistics harder and more expensive. Unfortunately, with the amount raised so far we are unable to make the first journey just yet, so we decided to wait a bit longer. Meanwhile, we focus on our data analyses and publications that will provide a solid scientific basis to our future conservation efforts.

Many thanks for bearing with us in the meantime. Please stay safe and vigilant!
