Summary

This project will provide clean drinkable water to an impoverished community by enabling us to build an underground concrete water tank, collect rain water in this tank, purify the water and use it to run our Maid Strong and Health Care projects and pipe the water for community's usage. Access to water will improve hygiene, especially in this COVID time. Not having to buy water will ease financial burden on poor parents who traffic their adolescent girls as housemaids in the face of hardship.

Challenge

To fight the COVID-19 virus, people need to wash hands frequently. Water supply is a big challenge in Enugu. Rain falls in Abundance during rainy season, but Enugu does not have water in the dry season. Pipe borne water and boreholes are not tenable because Enugu is sedimented by coal, causing contamination, posing health hazard for humans. In order to survive, people buy water and this takes away from their income. Girls bear the brunt of reduced income in families.

Solution

The project will provide clean water in the dry season. Our activities require water usage at the Centre, especially during Boot camps. The community suffers from lack of drinkable water. Building an underground water tank will enable us harvest, filter, and provide clean water during the dry season, to use in running our projects and to give access to water to the community around the Centre in order to maintain hygiene and combat the transmission of virus.

Long-Term Impact

Money we use in purchasing water will be used to help girls thrive. The community will have clean water to drink and to maintain hygiene. The money used for buying water will be put into buying food. Clean water supply will improve the health community's status as it will aid good hygiene habit. Some women, whose reason for trafficking their daughters or encouraging their daughters to engage in the baby factory business is meagre income, will save money usually spent on water.
