Fundacion Bachaqueros is contributing to the survival of Jaguars and the preservation of their endangered habitat sites in the Gaira Valley of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. With scientific and ancestral knowledge we are protecting and restoring a threatened dry forest jaguar habitat and water source in the Carrizal Jaguar Reserve. We help the local farmer and indigenous populations find a balanced relationship with this endangered feline, and conserving the resources for future generations
The Carrizal Jaguar Reserve requires the incorporation of 9 additional hectares of key dry forest watershed to guarantee the Reserve's role as a key site to climate change and jaguar survival. Jaguars are being hunted and are running out of key habitat places to feed and water themselves due to deforestation and unsustainable human practices. Both people and the critically endangered jaguar population depend on protecting and restoring these last remaining as key sites for their survival.
Help to consolidate the protected Carrizal Jaguar Reserve with the purchase of 9 hectares of key native forest crucial to the spring and area that hosts the jaguar and other endangered fauna and flora species. We will plant at least 5000 native flora individuals to enrich the area and increase the fauna available for jaguars. Your assistance allows us to work with farmers to transform unsustainable practices and participation of indigenous communities will assure their empowerment as guardians
We care for the Jaguar habitat three key ways: 1:permanent protection of the complete habitat of the Carrizal JaguarReserve as a safe site to sustain jaguars along their forest corridor. 2:restoration of the Carrizal stream and forest that will guarantee access to water. 3:Benefits for 150 families in the area with environmental education, sustainability, conservation and restoration of the Tropical Dry Forests and alternatives to share their territory with the jaguar population.
