Each year HRI tries to distribute clean water filters to at least 100 families which provides clean, safe drinking and cooking water to more than 600 people.
Although we have not received any gifts yet for this project on GlobalGiving, this past quarter, we pulled funds from our undesignated direct donations to purchase materials and build water filters for several families in rural Haiti.
These families had fled Port-au-Prince due to extreme gang violence. Many left with nothing more than the clothes on their backs and their lives as their home were being burned to the ground.
Now living in this remote village community, they are rebuilding their life from nothing - without stable jobs or incomes, without nutritious food for their children, without the means to send their children to school, and without the most basic life resource: WATER.
Before we arrived, the families were drinking from a filthy stream of water - a stream that is often stagnant and also used by livestock creating an even greater health hazard. The children had severe diarrhea and extreme malnutrition.
With the help of HRI's nutritious feeding program and these new water filters, the children and mother's health have drastically improved already in just a few short months! The mothers report diarrhea has been resolved and their children have energy to help with chores and to run and play as children should!
This project is so vital for the health and wellbeing of those we serve. We hope you will partner with us to provide the most basic life resource: WATER - to more families in critical need.
