By Drop of Water | Project Team
As previously mentioned in our quarterly report, we have undertaken a 2-year project in Sidama Region, Ethiopia. The project is all-encompassing, covering everything from clean water supply projects to WASH and Nutrition programs as well as soil conservation and climate change. We are happy to report that all seven of the planned clean water projects have been successfully completed and they now are serving a total of $385 households or more than 1,900 individuals. This is the first step towards sustainability and accomplishing through change.
Recognizing the interconnected nature of these challenges, we have also prioritized soil conservation and climate change mitigation. The Sidama region is prone to heavy rainfall and flooding, which can erode the soil and compromise the structural integrity of the water infrastructure. To address this issue, we have collaborated closely with local communities to implement soil conservation works using gabion, around the newly constructed water points. These structures help to stabilize the soil and protect the water catchment from erosion, ensuring their long-term sustainability for water sources.
In addition, we have actively participated in the Green Legacy movement, a nationwide effort to promote reforestation and environmental conservation in Ethiopia. By distributing seedlings among households and participating in community planting events, we have contributed to the restoration of degraded landscapes and the enhancement of biodiversity.
With the Ethiopian New Year just behind us, it is hard not to look back and remember the years of service we've given throughout the span of 16 years. Through the journey of completing over 150 clean water projects and benefiting 80, 000 plus people, we have embarked on new adventures. One thing however always remains the same and that is our unwavering dedication to the vision of 100% access to clean water for all and we will do everything in our power to see it through.
We are deeply grateful to our partners, donors, and supporters for their continued commitment to our mission. They have always been a constant shoulder support. Their generous contributions have enabled us to make a real life difference in the lives of countless individuals and families. As always, we would also like to give our thanks to GlobalGiving for providing a platform to raise awareness and mobilize support for our cause. Our daily lives revolve around water, from morning to night. It is a vital necessity for our survival. Let us come together to assist those who lack access to this essential resource.
