By Drop of Water | Project Team
In this quarter, DoW was able to complete the construction of four (4) clean water projects in South Wollo, Amhara Region, Ethiopia. These projects combined are now successfully serving close to 1300 individuals in the area. The projects undertaken were a bit complex and the DoW field team had to come up with ways that can best serve the community without disrupting their everyday lives. Such an example would be one of the sites. The people in the village make their living primarily from cattle herding. Therefore, adjusting the original design and adding a cattle trough was necessary along with the water point. Sush adjustments give a clear example on why it is important to work together with the community closely. We can bring expertise but the community has invaluable insights that provide useful for the overall success and sustainability of the project. Since our last update, the other major program was the continuation of the Major WASH programs launched in the previous quarter, particular;ly in Sidama Region, Ethiopia. The DoW field team was able to travel there and successfully select potential sites for the next round of clean water projects. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Committees (WASHCos) were also selected at the sites and received training. New and exciting projects are ahead of us as we are expanding our programs into different ventures that encompass environmental conservation and sustainability as well. A huge gratitude to all our partners and supporters. You have been steady in your presence. You brought life to our vision and we wouldn't be here without you, GlobalGiving being chief among them. Thank you all. Our lives are intertwined with water from dawn to dusk; providing access to it whenever we can is the equivalent of giving back lives!
