Girl fetching from unimproved water source
Access to clean water is key to sustainable growth and the overall health of any given community. In rural Ethiopian villages, the problem of access to clean water shows its face in all aspects of communal living. For example, girls often miss several school day and hours while walking long distances seeking water, and even when in school there is often no water to take care of basic hygiene and sanitation needs. In other instances, competition for the available water often can lead to conflict between neighboring communities. Drop of Water’s stood to eradicate the water problem in Ethiopia by providing clean drinking water, advocating for sanitation and protection of the environment. Your substantial donation, contribution, and support towards our project are the most significant asset for all team members in DoW, we always appreciate and value you! Your generous contributions have already enabled DOW to successfully complete a spring development project in Sidama Region in the southern part of Ethiopia. The constructed water well in Sidama region comes with three faucets and is currently serving 600 souls every day, the project is sustainable and will continue serving the people around. The project would not have been possible without the contributions made available by GlobalGiving. Each water well means tremendous benefits to the community. Girls don’t miss school, children don’t get sick from water borne diseases, and the community gets to practice better hygiene and sanitation practices. We encourage you to continue partnering with DOW in your giving so we can bring smiles to villagers in rural Ethiopia. Each water well provided is an entry point and opportunity for DOW to begin a relationship with that community. Through this relationship we will be able to provide other services around healthy nutrition, achieving universal primary education, preventing water borne disease and promoting gender equality and women empowerment. We will keep working on construction of clean drinking water supplies for the unreached communities until all the nations have fully get access to clean water and sanitation!
