The COVID 19 pandemic continues to affect the lives of many in Venezuela. In a devastated country with a complex humanitarian crisis its effects are even more disastrous.
Venezuelan's economy continues to be halted, with periods of flexibilization when some economic activity resumes. This is having a devastating effect, not only on the health of the population, but also on food security and education. To date schools have not reopened and there is no formal timeline as to when this might happen.
Access to water and hygiene are more critical than ever not only as an effective way to mitigate and prevent coronavirus transmission but also to prevent other transmissible diseases which have high mortality rates in a population severly afected by malnourisment.
Since our last report, with the support of a grant and in partnership with our network of local partners we have continued to improve water infrastructure in care homes, community clinics, and soup kitchens.
We have supervised the correct usage and maintenance of the 96 water tanks installed during June/July 2020 that continue to work as an important piece in the implementation of our WASH programme.
We have overseen the distribution and proper assembly of 20 water purification filters to our partners NGO’s, that will aid in the continuation of their programmes during the next 5 years.
We have bought and distributed 56 ceramic family filters which will provide families with potable water during the next 5 years, helping them to prevent Covid 19 and other transmissible diseases.
Finally, we have supplied our partners with 9000 bars of soap for the continuity of our sanitation programme.
Thanks to your generous donations and Chamos’ extensive experience working in Venezuela we have been able to carry out this project eciently and eectively.
Our aim is to expand this much needed programme, so we can continue to bring this vital resource to many more children during the coming months and next year.
