This project will equip Teenage Mothers from families of deceased people due to HIV/AIDS with vocational training and skills development which will enable them to become self-reliant in life, to evade the of sexual exploitation, lack of proper integration in families and and unemployment among others. It is also geared towards making the Teenage Mothers become tools of grate change among young girls and fellow youth in the community of Kanyabala in Homabay/ Kenya.
There are more than 158 Young girls that leave their families to fend for themselves and their children after becoming young mothers. Dropped out of school, they lack knowledge & skills though they wish to be employed. They remain unskilled laborers for the lowest pays. This project is aimed at providing skills in dressmaking and hairdressing for 158 teenage mothers yearly with the aim of making them self-reliant. The larger community will find services and goods more affordable and closer.
Keeping in mind that the market for fabric and beauty products and services, there is an ever growing opportunity for teenage mothers to be involved in gainfully. The project aims at; 1. Equipping the teenage mothers with vocational skills and development in Dressmaking and Hairdressing. 2. Providing them with seed money to start and run own businesses. They will also be encouraged to form groups, practice Table Banking, Save with Banking Institutions and be able to access loans for business.
There is ready market. Ones they have the skills and are established in businesses, they will succeed. We will provide training in Entrepreneurship, GBV, SRH, Financial Literacy, Leadership and ICT to augment the vocational skills earned. Skills are easily be passed to children and generations - alternatively, teenage mothers can have family businesses in future! Goods and services will be available to the population. There will be a reduction on prices for families to save and meet more needs.
