Help 500 Flood victim youth with vocational skills

By Abigail Ohene-Gyamfi | Project Coordinator

This report summarizes the progress made on the “Help 500 flood victim youth with vocational skills” Project.

In the first quarter, HOCAP met with the leadership of Topko and an outcome of the meeting resulted to a current vacant structure which was formally used for a project in the community being generously donated by leaders of Tokpo to HOCAP to be used to commence the ICT centre.

Due to the condition of the structure, there was the need for renovations. Below is the expenditure for the renovations that was done:

  • Electricals: $277
  • Painting: $88
  • Roofing Repairs: $267
  • Ceiling and Welding: $217
  • ICT equipment setup: $27
  • Furniture equipments: $567
  • Transportation: $109
  • Workmanship: $113

The renovation for the ICT centre amounted to $1665.

In October 2024, HOCAP together with Pastor Heather Kirk-Daviidoff and other three representatives from the Westminister Presbyterian Church (WPC) in Albany, USA officially opened the ICT centre, marking the start of the vocational training in the community. The centre is fully equipped with 12 working computers which was a donation from the WPC. Also, the Headteacher of Topko voluntarily assigned one of the ICT teachers in the school to run the ICT centre providing an opportunity for the young people and students in Topko and surrounding communities to gain ICT skills. Again, we will implement a system to monitor the progress of the centre and evaluate the impact of the ICT training program.

We look forward to achieving another milestone by the next quarter as we continue to seek for partnerships to secure additional resources and funding to begin other vocational trainings. We are sincerely grateful to you all for the support so far.
