Calcutta Rescue has been actively working on empowering underprivileged students by providing them with vocational training opportunities to secure professional careers. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between education and employability, focusing especially on those who may not excel academically. Our education program holistically supports children from the age of 4 up to 24, guiding them through different stages of their learning journey until they can opt for a professional career path.
Over the past few years, we have selected deserving candidates for vocational courses based on their aspirations and interests. These students are carefully chosen not only for their potential but also for their pressing need for skill development, as many come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and are first-generation learners. Vocational training has become a vital stepping stone for them to overcome barriers that limit their access to traditional education and employment pathways.
Our vocational training courses cover a wide range of skills, from technical fields like electrical work and computer operations to practical skills such as tailoring, driving, beautician courses and healthcare services. The program provides students with hands-on experience, ensuring that they are well-prepared to enter the job market upon completion of their courses. By aligning training with market demands, we ensure that the students acquire relevant skills that improve their chances of securing employment.
One of the highlights of our program is the job placement support provided to students after completing their courses. Many of our trainees have successfully transitioned into stable jobs, bringing much-needed financial relief to their families. For most of these students, this is a pivotal moment as they are often the first in their families to enter the formal workforce. The steady income from their employment helps alleviate the financial burden on their families, improving their quality of life and offering them a chance to lead a more secure and dignified life.
We’ve seen significant progress in the lives of the students who have undergone vocational training. Their success stories have reinforced our belief in the program's importance and its long-term impact on the community. The students' ability to secure jobs and contribute to their families’ income not only benefits their immediate households but also serves as an inspiration for others within their community, encouraging more young people to pursue vocational training.
The overall impact of this project has been encouraging, with many students achieving their personal aspirations and securing roles in industries that align with their training. As we continue to identify and support more candidates, we are committed to refining and expanding the vocational training courses to reach more students, ensuring that underprivileged youth are empowered to break the cycle of poverty and build brighter futures for themselves and their families.
Success Story:
"Somnath has always been a bright and determined boy. Despite our hardships, he remained dedicated to his studies, and the teachers at Calcutta Rescue never let him walk this path alone. Their support, combined with his drive, has made all the difference. Though we live with so little, we never hesitated to invest in his education because we knew it was his way forward. Now, he’s working, studying, and most importantly, he’s happy. As a mother, there’s no greater joy than seeing your child thrive. We are deeply grateful." - Somanth's mother.
"Growing up in the slum, I witnessed the relentless struggle my father endured to provide for our family—my mother, my grandmother, and me. His earnings were never enough, but he never gave up. My mother stood by him every step of the way, working just as hard. My parents are my pillars, my biggest supporters. Without their sacrifices and the opportunities provided by Calcutta Rescue, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am forever grateful." - Somnath.
"Today, my son stands beside me, supporting our family. As a father, there is no greater pride than seeing your child succeed despite the odds. Somnath’s achievements are our greatest blessing."- Somnath's father.
When a child is independent and supports her/his family, that is the greatest feeling.
