With the official kick-off in January 2019, Mundo de Talentos´ project was carried out in a very satisfactory way. For both students and their parents and the team of Mundo de Talentos this first year has been a positive and inspiring adventure. We are happy to share a sample of the first year results of the program and will continue with the activities in 2020 with high expectations.
Mundo de Talentos (www.mundodetalentos.mx) offers free vocational guidance through an intensive three-year program that takes place every Saturday in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas. Children between 10 and 13 years old from public schools are selected to participate. Passionate professionals share their work experiences and invite students to learn in a participatory way about possible career opportunities. The sessions are held both at the Pequeño Sol school, and by means of excursions at the workplace. The program covers 15 modules during the 3 years including Technology, Sciences, Arts, Journalism and Medicine among others.
The students are very enthusiastic about the program. Their parents mention that during the week they can hardly get up to go to school, but on Saturdays they get up early and are ready long before they have to leave their homes to go to Mundo de Talentos. A father mentioned that he feels that his son´s world has opened up since he started participating in Mundo de Talentos. One of the students wrote the following after completing an assignment of reflection:
“I really like the experience that I’m having at Mundo de Talentos”
