Mundo de Talentos offers free vocational guidance to children between 10 and 12 years in Chiapas, Oaxaca and Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Every year, 440 girls and boys from public schools discover their interests and talents. In this way they become better prepared for their own futures. Passionate professionals share their work experience with the children and invite them to engage in activities and excursions, including subjects as biology, arts, medicine, technology, tourism among many others.
Every day, 1,800 students drop out of Mexican high schools, most of them in the first year. Out of every 10 students entering a university, only two finish with a degree. Moreover, around 7 million youngsters in Mexico are unemployed and receive no education at all. An important reason for these staggering statistics, is that youth in many regions has not received appropriate vocational training. Adequate vocational training helps to decrease drop-out rates.
Mundo de Talentos provides free vocational guidance for 440 children between 10 and 12 years, through a 2-year program on Saturdays. Passionate professionals share their work experience with the students and invite them to engage in activities and excursions. The project aims to strengthen childrens self-esteem and improves their sense of belonging in society by discovering their own talents. The program covers 12 modules including architecture, communication, entrepreneurship, among others.
The potential long-term impact aimed for by this project includes three aspects of the students development: better future prospects, improved self-awareness, and a feeling of more connectedness with society. Mundo de Talentos aims to reach these three goals by connecting a program of academic and artistic subjects with the enhancement of socioemotional skills of youth. This way the project motivates them to become responsible and strong actors of society who are prepared for their own futures.
