Christmas in July!!!
With the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl looming over Greater Houston area, FSWW was determined to follow through with its 1st Annual Christmas in July "Joy with a Toy Wish List " event. Fueled by the projected necessity and overflow of our clients’ children, Team FSWW pressed forward to ensure every child will have a memorable Christmas Holiday. As domestic violence cases continue to rise, the duality often forgotten is the effects on the children. As secondary victims, children inherit the trauma from their chaotic environments which often effects them mentally, emotionally and physically robbing them of a healthy, peaceful and productive childhood.
So in efforts of restoring some sense of normalcy amidst their chaos and transition, FSWW wholeheartedly rallied donors and community partners for an early toy collection and what a success it was! For starters, FSWW created an Amazon Registry, "Joy with a Toy Wish List,” making it easy to donate with just the click of a button. Gifts for all ages, newborns to14 years, poured in, filling giant contractor trash bags full of toys with the overflow in large boxes. The Amazon Registry will remain active until FSWW’s 20th Annual Toy Drive and Extravaganza on December 14th.

Upcoming Events:
Celebrating 27 years of Legacy and Purpose, FSWW will be hosting its Anniversary and Annual Legacy Awards with a Comedy Affair, October 18, 2024. This event also doubles as our call to arms for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) to benefit victims/survivors of domestic abuse.
As everyday boots on the ground, FSWW experienced an overwhelming demand for services this 3rd quarter.
FSWW’s quarterly stats are as follows:
FSWW served 215 unduplicated clients with 1,400+ services, inclusive of extensive case management services for food, clothing and rental assistance; financial assistance for utilities, phone bills, psychiatric/medication support, car notes and repairs, household items, transportation, furniture, and housing assistance; legal advocacy and court accompaniments. Crisis counseling/therapy clients received 849 hours of counseling and 13 support groups with 116 attendees.
FSWW is eternally grateful for the support received through our GlobalGiving partner, as we acknowledge that our organization would not be able to provide the array of services to our domestic violence clients and their families without financial support.
FSWW continues to endeavor to expand our services by acquiring additional funding particularly to address the growing need for emergency housing assistance for domestic violence victims/survivors and their families. FSWW continues to receive an astronomical number of requests for housing, as our clients have escaped abusive situations with no place to go with their children. Due to overcrowded shelters in the Houston-Harris County Metropolitan Area and surrounding counties, we are seeking partnerships with housing developers, builders, housing programs, and other funders to provide our clients with safe housing and a place to build a new life for them and their children.
