Project Report | Sep 5, 2019
Technology Access to Public Schools

By MacFarlane Okonta | President

As part of our goal to provide tools and resources for the under-served, in order to Advance Education through Technology, VHF has made the decision to use the Lego Mindstorm EV3 core set for its Connect2Empower STEM Girls Robotics! VHF’s Connect2Empower STEM Robotics for girls will be launched in November, 2019! Our original plan was to launch the program last month in August, but we had challenges picking the right Robotics hardware that will suit the proposed goal and objectives of the program. We are very excited about the opportunity to provide the inner city kids in Washington DC, PG County and Baltimore city, Maryland with access to STEM Robotics to develop and learn how to code. The Lego Mindstorm EV3 set is based on the C programing language. We say “thank you to all our DONORS for your generous gifts”. Your donation has made this possible!

We keep expanding our projects in various in Nigeria. Our team in Nigeria is expecting the arrival of computers shipped from the United States for our projects in Lagos, Kaduna and Ibadan.

Students of St James High School in Montego Bay Jamaica are interacting better with their teachers using the projector donated by VHF. The projector allows the teacher to interact with students better, to use a multimodal form of teaching and to provide more entertaining ways to teach and get their lesson objectives and facts across. While students of Ashton All Age Primary Westmoreland, Jamaica are using the Internet connectivity to interact with their teachers in varied ways, and offering powerful ways for students and teachers to manipulate data, and conduct research.

The Internet is not an approach to education, but rather a tool that can be used with almost any educational theory. It makes additional information resources available, it enhances dynamic communication, and it makes collaboration easier for the students and teachers at Ashton ALL Age Primary in Westmoreland, Jamaica.

We sincerely thank you for your donation towards our projects!
