In the past five years, VHF has made tremendous strides working with Public Schools in Nigeria, Jamaica, Guyana, Philippines, Kenya and the United States to Advance Education through Technology. This was made possible as a result of your support, because you believe in the impact that we’re making in the lives of under-served children all over the world.
In 2019, VHF will embark on three projects including a Lego Mindstorm EV3 project (STEM with virtual robots).
VHF will be busy this year, implementing projects in Nigeria, Guyana and Jamaica. In Nigeria, we will be donating computers and subscribing to Internet connectivity for a total of three secondary schools. As part of our project sustainability, our technology refresh program, will enable us to replace dysfunctional computers at Ikeja Junior Grammar School (VHF’s very first project in 2014). Since the computer and Internet donation from VHF, reports from Ikeja Junior Grammar school have shown that students are able to learn with multimedia through Ebooks, videos and games online. Students are in a better chance of understanding the lesson than they did before access to computers and Internet. Teachers at the school also expressed that online learning resources and apps have allowed them to include multitude of ways to present information to the students.
In Guyana, VHF will service two schools in Linden, Guyana. We will provide them with computers, Internet connectivity, wireless access, and printers. VHF will return to Huis’T Dieren Elementary in Essequibo Coast to help replace computers that are not working. VHF donated computers to Huis’T Dieren Primary in 2015. The IT instructor, Martin Samaroo explains how excited the students get when in the ICT class. “Simulations, videos, and models supplement teachers lesson for better learning experience”. Huis’T Dieren Primary school students benefit from the use of simulations to better help explain complex concepts in science class.
As part of our efforts to “Advance Education through Technology’, we’re very excited to work with our first school in the United States; The Imagine Hope Tulson Public Charter School in Washington, DC. We will be donating Chromebooks to the school!
As you know, we go to Montego Bay, Jamaica every year. This year, we’ve included Kingston, Jamaica to our list! VHF’s computer donation to William Knibb Memorial High School in Jamaica has made it possible for students to have access to Massive free online study materials and user interactive forums Don’t forget that 99% of public schools in developing countries don’t have access to computers and the Internet. Computer access is crucial to learning and with your generous support we can’t do it without you! Thank you again!
