We are going Virtual

By MacFarlane Okonta | President

In 2014 we launched our project to help Advance Education through Technology in developing countries and the inner cities of the United States. Since then, thanks to you, we have found sponsors and partners for our projects, donated over 500 computers, provided Internet access to more than 40 public schools globally, and have impacted over 10,000 students.

We recently launched our STEM Robotics program in November, 2019 to help inner city kids with developing their coding skills.  Our first STEM Robotics/Coding project will be with Bridges Public Charter School NE Washington, DC. The program was supposed to commence this Fall 2020 as an after school program using Lego Mindstorms EV3 robotics. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was suspended until further notice. One team decided to design a virtual program that will enable us run the program in a safe and effective way. That means we will be able to engage students online in a block-based visual programming language and website targeted for kids between 8-11.

VHF International will be teaming-up with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Washington, DC chapter to provide students at Bridges Public charter school a quality after-school program that will allow them develop their coding skills by creating interactive stories, games and animations. Students will learn basic concepts that teach math, reading, and most importantly, problem solving. We plan to start the program in the Spring of 2021.

The key phrase for us is “High Yield Learning!” There is no better example of high yield learning than the VHF’s Scratch Coding program!
