By Jane Wells | Executive Director and Filmmaker
In July 2011 we had the honor of filming Jacob Wood, co-foudner of Team Rubicon. He was the first veteran we filmed and his story moved us deeply. After serving in Iraq and Afghanistan he and his fellow veteran William McNulty founded Team Rubicon. (You can see our interviews with both of them on our website).
Back then he had just returned from a mission to help in Haiti, a country devastated by an earthquake. Using the skills learned in the military, he and his fellow veterans started on a path that now, nearly a decade later has Team Rubicon having helped in over 300 natural disasters.
Last week Jake published a memoir: Once A Warrior: How One Veteran Found A New Mission Closer to Home. It is a book that Tom Brakow has described as "The book America needs now". In it Jake recounts how, over the past 10 years, he and his team have recruited over 130,000 volunteers to his disaster response organization Team Rubicon. Racing against the clock, these veterans battle hurricanes, tornados, wildfires, pandemics, and civil wars, while rediscovering their life's purpose along the way.
We are thrilled at the impact Jake and Team Rubicon have had. They are giants in terms of their impact and the vision they hold. We are honored to include them in the growing roster of stories we have told at 3 Generations over the last 12 years.
Our work with veterans continues. We thank you for your support of, and trust in us.
