At 3 Generations we like to listen carefully and amplify some of the quieter voices amongst us.
Last month we were moved when we met Debbie, a transgender Vietnam veteran who has endured poverty, homelessness and prejudice since she started to pursue her identitiy as a woman. We spent time with her and her friends in the homeless community in her hometown and were priviledged to film her story. In 2018 we will create a short film about Debbie and her experiences as both a former marine and representing the small, but challenged, transgender veteran community.
Without the support of the GlobalGiving community we would not be able to tell the stories of marginalized veterans. In our work with veterans we are proud to be able to reflect the broad diversity of veterans in this country. Stories like Debbie's reflect the complexity of the veteran experience in the United States. There are over 20 million veterans in this country, and it is important to recognize that this population is as diverse as our nation. We value all our veterans.
We'll keep you posted on Debbie's story and share news over the coming months. If you have any questions or enquiries please feel free to contact us directly. Thank you.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
