An amazing start to our school year!

By Jose Pablo Rojas-Brewer | Development Director, UWC alum, and proud Impact F

A great start to our new school year!
A great start to our new school year!

Dear Community,

¡Muchas gracias for your continuous support of our mission to cultivate in young people the passion and ability to serve humanity and our planet—learning from nature and from each other for a lifetime!

So far, the start of the 2024-2025 school year at UWC Costa Rica has brought:

  • 107 new first-year students from 60 countries around the world, 80% of them receiving scholarship support.
  • 5 new staff members from Costa Rica, Chile, Canada, and the United States.
  • UWC Costa Rica was certified as a Great Place to Work, re-authorized as an IB Diploma Programme college, and re-accredited by CIS!
  • A three-day cross-area workshop from the Green Schools National Network, during which our entire staff learned from nature and from each other, integrating the Green Schools’ experience and best practices in experiential education and whole-school sustainability approaches.
  • A collaboration with the Colegio Técnico Profesional (CTP) of San Isidro de Heredia through our Agents of Change workshop. 35 CTP students explored leadership, conflict resolution, sustainability, and global citizenship topics facilitated by 6 UWC Costa Rica students. Our Agents of Change student facilitators also led all 107 first-year students in a two-day camp to gain the tools to turn their ideas into action at UWC Costa Rica and their communities back home!
  • Two amazing Orientation Weeks to welcome our new students led by our Residential Life team who also invited our 206 students and almost 100 staff members to our yearly Community Day Camp, a day full of activities to nurture our bonds as a community.
  • 21 second-year students were chosen to present their Theory of Knowledge (TOK) exploration of critical thinking through the question: “To what extent is it possible to achieve certainty?” on our TOK exhibition.
  • UWC Costa Rica’s participation in Costa Rica’s Independence Day celebrations, joining the San Isidro de Heredia (our soon-to-be new neighbors!) in their September 15 parade featured in the Costa Rican news.
  • The celebration of UWC Day that included many activities on campus, and also by opening our doors to 80+ young people thinking about applying to UWC this year through the Costa Rican National Committee and their families.
  • And many, many other activities and celebrations that you can catch-up on on our Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and newly opened Tik-Tok pages!

Our dear friends, none of this would be possible without you. ¡Muchas Gracias!
