The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Emergency Allotments have expired effective March 1, 2023. What does this mean?
SNAP recipients have experienced a decrease in money for food with the average household reduction of $212. That reduction comes alongside a rise in consumer prices and the ability to afford food. Families and individuals in Cameron County, one of the poorest counties in the nation, will continue to feel the stress and rippling effects of inflation and food insecurity. Pay rent or buy food? Fill the prescription or put food on the table? Choices nobody should have to make.
United Against Hunger continues to provide food to families in need every other week, as we strategize to implement better solutions to this dangerous problem. In partnership with local farmers and the food bank, we have continued to serve our community by providing pantry staples, fresh fruits and vegetables, and protein. Our food bags have an estimated value of $125.00 per bag with an average of $125,000.00 of food distributed at each distribution. Your gift helps us pay the farmers for this extra food--helping them and helping families have access to beautiful fresh produce that would otherwise be out of their reach.
Your gift comes at a time of great need with a projected spike in the coming months.
Thank you for your help, we can't do this without you.
