Colombian farmers are leaving their farms in order to go to the city due to the lack of opportunities to commercialize their products. Itague seeks to enhance their marketing opportunities to commercialize abroad, allowing the control and registration of on and off field activities by applying good practices and promoting the possibility of international certification to open markets outside the country, easily complying with the standards and requirements required to export their products.
Colombia stands out in international markets for its offer in products such as coffee, bananas, flowers and fruit. However, small farmers are being affected by large exporting companies because of their their low competitiveness due to poor technological infrastructures, poor logistics integration, product handling and the large number of intermediaries. This problem has affected the more than 2.7 million small farmers who are leaving their farms for new opportunities in urban areas
Itague is a web and cloud based agricultural management system, which will facilitate the tasks of programming, execution, control, monitoring and registration of the on and off field activities carried out by producers. With its use and adoption, it is expected that 100% of the daily, periodic and eventual farm tasks, such as: harvesting, post-harvesting and storage, (maintenance of equipment, cleaning and disinfection of tools, control and management waste) will be standardized.
Having well equipped farms and farmers will lower desertion of small farmers, they will then stay at their place growing quality products that are demanded by the growing world population, not only in Colombia but world wide, with will be also an opportunity to the small farmer to increase revenue by exporting their products.
