In this quarter, up to 30 boys participated in the “Underwear for Needy Boys in Africa” program.
The boys were mentored on proper hygiene, specifically underwear hygiene and its importance and benefits. They were taught this through a regular Friday seminar which lasted up to 2 hours.
Protection from Infections
They learnt about how bacteria and yeast thrive in dirty and moist/warm environments and how that would make the groin area an ideal breeding ground for them. They were informed about how wearing clean underwear helps reduce the risk of developing infections.
Odor Control
We also taught the boys on how sweat and body fluids can accumulate in underwear, leading to unpleasant odors and how regularly changing and washing of underwear helps keep bad odors at bay, promoting a fresh and clean feeling.
Skin Irritations and Chaffing
The boys also learnt about how wearing dirty or soiled underwear can cause skin irritation, itching, and chafing since clean underwear reduces the likelihood of these issues and helps maintain healthy skin.
Overall Comfort
And finally, the boys were reminded that wearing clean underwear is simply much more comfortable. Fresh underwear allows for better air circulation, reduces moisture, and provides a more pleasant sensation against the skin.
The mentoring session ended with the gifting of new underwear to the boys. With the donations we were given, we were able to gift five boys with two pairs of underwear each. In our next quarter, we aim to donate underwear to up to 5,000 more boys. We thank those who donated and ask for more help to our important cause to promote the comfort, health and hygiene of these young boys as they grow.
