On August 28, 41 families in Barangay Santiago, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan received their disaster preparedness kits, solar lighting system, and water purifiers, thanks to the donations received by Global Peace Foundation Philippines from Global Giving. Global Peace Foundation Philippines received a $5,000 donation from Global Giving which helped achieve the goal of providing assistance to 41 families affected by Typhoon Mangkhut.
When Typhoon Mangkhut hit the Philippines last year, Sanchez Mira was one of the devastated municipalities. Families in Brgy. Santiago were left without access to electricity and clean water at the aftermath of the typhoon.
The Municipal Government of Sanchez Mira, represented by Councilor Napoleon Sacramed and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management (MDRRM) Officer Mr Jovitor Biado Jr., joined the Global Peace Foundation in the turnover. MDRRM Officer Jovitor Biado spoke on the importance of the donation from Global Giving and he reminded the families to be disaster-ready. Barangay Chairman Orland Sienda was also present to warmly welcome the families.
Ms Ana Marie Mira, President of Inner Wheel Club Pasig, also contributed additional hygiene kits to the disaster kits received by the families and inspired the participants to collaborate with the disaster-preparedness initiative. Mr. Mon Milante, GPF officer, led the demonstration of using and maintaining the solar lamps while I explained the use and maintenance of the water purifier. The turnover ceremony ended successfully with grateful partner-beneficiaries.
