OBJ disaster relief team lead the way in helping devastated communities in Tateyama, Chiba clear up debris, take trash to the dump, and help local community recover from the typhoon that hit back mid in October. Our DR manager Mr. Yuge, and his assistant, Mr. Itoh lead the crews of volunteers that came in from various parts of Japan. Work was conducted in consultation with local social services department of the city office.
Some of our volunteers visited homes where residents were still holding out in their homes, following the typhoon. One social worker volunteer from Kyoto found an elderly resident who had collapsed and was lying on the floor. The woman was conscious but unable to move. And so an ambulance was quickly called. Other volunteers were able to counsel an elderly person who had received a fraudulent notice that she had to pay tax. Even in a place like Japan, fraudsters take advantage of elderly survivors after a disaster, offering them services at exorbitant fees, or extortioning money. Operation Blessing teams are identified by our vests, which is a comfort for survivors trying to piece together their shattered lives.
Over 544 households were helped by the work of our teams since the disaster.
