At TYO’s Entrepreneurship Program, we meet many entrepreneurs with different ideas and skills and try to do our best to help them build and expand their ideas and businesses. Our women entrepreneurs are always special, hardworking, strong, and hungry to learn.
Oraib, 30 years old and living in Nablus, Palestine, had her own event planning business. She joined TYO’s Entrepreneurship Program because she felt stuck and did not know how to further expand her business.
Her natural passions led her to start her business. Since she was a child, she always loved arts, crafts, and doing new, creative things. and this led her to study graphic design at An-Najah National University in 2009. After graduating, she realized that she could pursue her passion and turn it into a real business. That is how she started the Glamorous Events company, which she continues to run today.
During the first three years of her business, she worked from home, selling her own handmade and curated gift giveaways for different occasions. After that, she opened a shop for gift giveaways, souvenirs, and party accessories. It was challenging from the very beginning. The idea of event planning in Nablus was still new and people were not open to it yet. Furthermore, people did not understand how much work and effort were required to plan engaging events. When she designed her first party and published the pictures on social media, people started to like the decorations and designs and started to ask for the service. Her business and idea started to be known, but unfortunately she did not know the next steps required to grow her business.
TYO helped Oraib realize how important it is to plan professionally for her business. To achieve her dreams, she needed skills and knowledge in areas such as financial planning and management, marketing and branding, leadership, opportunity analysis, market research, leadership, and ICT. TYO offered Oraib training in these and many other entrepreneurship and leadership skills.
This year, Oraib will open an events hall that she will decorate and rent out. In the next 2 years, she is also planning to open new branches of her business in other areas across Palestine. Networking and public relations are now essential for her to widen her market share. Fortunately, Oraib developed a strong foundation through TYO’s Entrepreneurship Program and has the skills to succeed.
Oraib’s advice to others with business ideas is that they should go for it and commit. Nothing is impossible. If you have an idea, you have to persevere until you succeed!
