By Leticia Aguilar | Project Leader

Within the Educando strategic line, last year the menstruation training cycle was implemented, which consists of three workshops on sexual and reproductive health and menstruation aimed at primary school girls from 4th to 6th grade in rural schools in different service locations, which are carried out simultaneously, separating women and men, this to generate an environment of trust, in addition to allowing them to express their doubts and concerns.

In the women's group, it is facilitated by the two Tsotsil educators. The topics addressed in the workshops were: I know my body, menstruation part 1 and 2 with a duration of one day each; In the men's group it is facilitated by the area coordinator, with the support of volunteers and the topics are addressed: I know my body, changes in adolescence and respect my body and that of others, with a duration of two days. For this period from July to October 2024, the Menstrual Health and Hygiene training cycle was concluded in the last primary school in the community of Lindavista, municipality of Teopisca.  Likewise, girls' committees were formed to use and safeguard a menstrual kit that was delivered for use within each of the schools where the training cycles were taught.

The main achievements:

• The workshops were facilitated by Tsotsil educators, in the Tsotsil language, which allowed for a better understanding of the topics.

• In the workshops, the girls were trained in making ecological sanitary pads.

• The girls and boys were motivated by understanding the physical and emotional changes they experience in adolescence and that these are perfectly normal.

• The support of teachers interested in learning about the topic for the best support of the students

• The organization of school committees for the correct care of the menstruation kit that contains: ecological towels, teaching materials, menstruation guide and calendar in Spanish and Tsotsil.
