Challenge

Tropical Storm Ana made landfall in Southern Africa on January 24, 2022, devastating parts of Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. According to the UN, by January 30th, more than 126,000 people were affected, with at least 21 dead and 210 injured. The storm has also exacerbated existing issues. In Malawi, for example, more rain means a greater risk to lower parts of the country that are flood prone. In Zambia, the storm has worsened conditions in communities already affected by storms.

Solution

ActionAid is responding by meeting the distinct and immediate needs of the four countries affected. In Southern Malawi, alongside our partners, we are providing shelter, food support, bedding, dignity essentials, and school kits. In Mozambique, we are aiming to reach nearly 3,000 people with food, dignity kits for women. In Zambia, we are providing food support and repairs to homes and classrooms destroyed by the flooding. disaster risk reduction trainings to communities.

Long-Term Impact

ActionAid's response is community-driven, women-led, and rights-based, which means your donation today invests in change that lasts. Your gift helps us respond to this crisis and support human rights around the world.
