All warmed up

By Lucija Rozic | Team member

If you spend too much time warming up, you will miss the race. If you don't warm up at all, you may not finish the race.

Grand Heidrich

The mid of 2022 is already here and we are fully immersed in workshops just as we are determined to support fundamental changes in subjects of child protection and deinstitutionalization.

Our groups expanded a bit in the number of participants so at this moment we have:

  • 35 participants in the personal development program for deinstitutionalization TaV
  • 30 participants in the employment program EleMentor
  • 45 caregivers participating in the educational program Caring for the Caregivers

The majority of the participants, 84% are studying either for a technician or a bachelor's degree. 11% are receiving personal orientation and guidance on how to enroll and prepare for university, and the last 5% are still in high school.

Since the beginning of April, every Saturday, our first-year participants have been learning about the components of self-esteem, healthy relations, emotions, and how to handle them, while our second-year participants organized and implemented graduation projects. Each graduation project had to have a social aspect, the subject was chosen by the participants.

This year's subjects were focused on awareness of social media's effect on building one's self-image, why self-care is the language of love, and how it can help us learn to love ourselves, and then there were a lot of subjects about COVID, and why we have to continue being careful.

On the national level, we are actively participating as part of the group overseeing the national plan for deinstitutionalization and child protection, screening all the organizations that could contribute to the subject, and educating psychologists working with children in protective care.

This group of organizations, supervised by the Ministery of Social Development,  came together in 2021 to support a system that would guarantee the best interests of children, adolescents, and families. The national plan came as a result of all the proposals made so now comes the fun part! Implementation =)

Until next time,

Your Tav Team
