The community center "For a better world" is located in the KM 13 neighborhood, where pollution and flooding affect the health and safety of families. In addition, the economic situation, job insecurity and extreme vulnerability are a sign of social complexity. The center has been dedicated for 38 years to the promotion and protection of the children's rights through education and sports. More than 122 children attend the current space which is insufficient. The aim is to build a new space.
The current space is insufficient for the activities carried out there by the 122 children and adolescents who attend the center. In addition, the flood affects daily activities, which must be suspended during the flooding, in addition to the material damage caused. On the other hand, the needs of children at each stage of development are different. That is why having separate spaces for age groups is key to strengthen the permanence and trajectories of those who attend the center.
Through the expansion and refunctionalization of spaces, it will be possible to adapt workshops and resources to the specific needs of each group, providing a safer, more inclusive and enriching environment for everyone. The new building will be constructed taking into account the flood level so that it will not be damaged by it. In this way, the new space will also be suitable for sheltering the organization's assets in times of flooding.
It is expected that the new space will be appropriated by workers and children, and that the facilities, equipment and everything that has been built will be taken care of. Daily activities will not be constantly interrupted anymore and there will be fluidity in the development of each day. External spaces that are currently underutilized will be recovered. The adolescents will be satisfied with having an exclusive space for themselves and this will have a positive impact on their activities.
