Due to Covid-19 restrictions, prisons are accepting limited interventions from organisations, reason why Friends Peace House is now training the community as we wait for prison interventions to resume. Friends Peace House has observed high rates of domestic violence and conflict resulting from Covid -19. Therefore, we have made it a priority to provide faith leaders and single mothers to improve their capacity to identify and address issues like domestic and sexual abuse mental health concerns and conflict in their community

We are happy to inform readers that as of June 2022, we have so far carried out 3 activities regarding transformational mediation:

1. A refresher and a gathering of our 13 facilitators (5 women and 8 men), including two released prisoners, to discuss the way forward concerning the project

2. Training of 27 single mothers including 6 teenagers in transformational mediation

3. Training of 25 community faith leaders on transformational mediation

Testimony:

Diana

“I am a single, unmarried mother. I was rejected after my family revealed that I was pregnant. I separated from my parents due to abuse and rejection and have lived with my aunt ever since. I could not imagine forgiving my father because of the torture he had inflicted on me, but after this training, I forgave him without any mediation session and decided to return home. I look forward to helping others girls separated from their parents due to the rejection and violence they have faced. I would really like to appreciate the knowledge of transformational mediation; I have found them to be the backbone of conflict resolution. I also thank Friends Peace House for this wonderful workshop”

Our gratitude goes to Curci for her great support to move our project forward
