Our project consists of transcribing textbooks in large print and in Braille for blind and visually impaired students in Cameroon. These manuals will then be distributed free of charge to the needy through our network of associations for the visually impaired. These textbooks cover essential subjects such as mathematics, science, physics and chemistry. Due to the limited resources of our association, we are currently dealing with primary school books.
The problem our project wants to solve is that visually impaired students have difficulty or do not have access at all to the textbooks included in the program in Cameroon. The visually impaired find it difficult to read because the characters are too small and the blind cannot read at all because the writing is not suitable for their sight problem.
By transcribing textbooks into large print and Braille, we will give blind or visually impaired students the possibility of having functional tools adapted to their visual requirements. They will thus be able to access knowledge without discrimination. Based on their disability.
The long-term impacts of our project on the beneficiaries can be measured on: Improving academic results; Reducing the dropout rate; Greater socio-professional integration; Reducing prejudice and discrimination against them.
