At El Sistema Greece, the most powerful stories are those that show how music changes lives in tangible, lasting ways. Hasan’s journey is one of those stories that become a vivid illustration of what it means to embrace opportunity, overcome challenges, and give back to your community.
When Hasan arrived at El Sistema Greece, he was a very young boy from Syria who found his voice and creative space in the world of music. He began as a violin student, immersing himself in the discipline and beauty of the instrument. His dedication quickly stood out, and he soon became a vital part of the El Sistema Greece Youth Orchestra. Simultaneously, his natural talent as a singer brought him to the El Sistema Greece Youth Choir, where his presence added depth and vibrancy to the ensemble.
But Hasan’s contribution to El Sistema Greece went beyond his musical skills. Over time, he became a member of the Young Leaders Program within the organization. This was an opportunity to learn, and grow in ways that transcended music. Hasan started his internship with us and supported production and communication activities, gaining first-hand experience in how a cultural organization operates. Through his work, he bridged the gap between his peers and the larger community, helping to amplify the voices of all members who found strength in music.
Now an adult, Hasan’s journey has come full circle, demonstrating the true power of resilience and dedication. His deep connection to El Sistema Greece’s mission inspired him to take his passion abroad. He is currently in Cyprus, completing an internship with Sistema Cyprus—a decision rooted in his desire to spread the values and skills he cultivated with us. There, he is not only expanding his horizons but also ensuring that the lessons he learned continue to ripple outward, touching more lives.
Hasan’s story is a concrete example of what can happen when young people are given the tools to thrive. He came to us as a little boy and continues as a young and empowered man equipped with skills, purpose, and a deep love for music and community. His decision to intern with Sistema Cyprus shows the enduring power of the El Sistema philosophy: to create not just musicians, but empowered leaders and changemakers who carry their experiences forward.
His journey is a reminder on why we do this work. Not to just teach music, but to create a place where young people like Hasan can discover their strengths, build futures of their own making, and go on to inspire others. Hasan is not just a part of the El Sistema Greece story—he is shaping its journey, ensuring it continues to resonate far beyond our classrooms, just as it has in his life.
Together, we can ensure that every child, like Hasan, has the opportunity to dream, grow, and make a lasting impact on the world through music.
With sincere gratitude,
Friends of El Sistema Greece
