El Sistema Greece is a community music project that provides free music education to children and young people in Greece. All children - no matter their origin, nationality, or religion - are not only inspired to strive for a better future but thanks to music, they are given a platform for dialogue and togetherness across diverse communities. We believe that a music instrument for a child works as a vehicle towards self discovery and development into the magic world of music.
Greece welcomes thousands of refugees and migrants when at the same time is struggling to recover from an economic crisis. Thousands of children, left in limbo lacking inspiration and dreams. El Sistema Greece is a social project that works hard to provide them with a sense of purpose, offering free choir and orchestral instrument classes to children and youth from different backgrounds in order to enrich their lives and promote social mobility. 1.500 students attended our program since 2016.
Our educational approach builds on effective methods from Venezuela's social action program El Sistema, adapted in over 60 countries and recognized as a tool for youth crime prevention by UNICEF. El Sistema Greece spreads music across refugee camps and community centers in Athens, Greece, offering free choir and orchestral instrument classes to children and youth from different unprivileged backgrounds and providing them with an instrument.
Music is a universal language that can be a powerful tool for social inclusion. The project will help more than 500 children and young people allowing them to feel members of a big music community in which everyone is welcome and free to express himself/herself, no matter their background, language and religion. Music is a powerful tool for social inclusion and musical education has been proven to be an incredibly effective medium for achieving social integration.
