We have learned many lessons over the last 12 months and one thing's for sure - music is essential for our well-being. Bromley Youth Music Trust (BYMT) has had to adapt to the changing circumstances and the staff and teachers have shown great resourcefulness in continuing to provide music services online. Now we are really looking forward to welcoming our students back in person too after the school Easter holidays. And who knows - maybe we'll have live concerts to go to soon?
The BYMT office team has, like so many, worked in difficult circumstances during the past year. We have missed working together in the office, the office banter and camaraderie and seeing the BYMT family of staff, teachers and students. We decided to embark on a 'team bonding' challenge that would lift our spirits and at the same time raise money for the BYMT Young Musicians Fund on our ‘Together we can Make Music and Change Lives’ project with GlobalGiving.
If you have ever met any of the office team in person, you’ll understand that we are not really up for any physical challenge - but inspired by our CEO’s effort of running a marathon for the project and considering where we work, we decided we should have a go at learning a musical instrument. We gave ourselves six weeks to learn the Ukulele from scratch, BYMT’s Head of Guitar generously gave his time on a Monday evening and after much effort and a lot of laughs, we are pleased to announce The BYMT UKULADIES recorded our first (and last?!) performance! You can see it here: https://youtu.be/a5-RbViGMhk
Thanks to the generosity of our fantastic friends and supporters we are well on the way to reaching our target for this project. But, there is still a way to go, and we may have to think of another ‘team bonding’ fundraiser – perhaps involving our teachers this time...
The past year has certainly been challenging and a long haul, but we are remaining very positive and 'lockdown' has made us even more appreciative of our BYMT family and together with your wonderful support we can continue to make music and change lives - THANK YOU
