Thank you—we can’t say it enough! Because of your generosity, people facing violence, aid blockades, war, and hunger in the Tigray and surrounding regions of Ethiopia were able to access health care, emergency relief items, food packages, and safe shelter.
Since its launch in 2021, the Tigray Famine and Crisis Relief Fund powered six grants to high-impact and community-led nonprofit organizations at the forefront of this crisis. These GlobalGiving partners have worked tirelessly since the civil war began in 2020, leaving thousands dead, more than 2 million displaced, and propelling crisis levels of food insecurity in what some have called the deadliest war in the world in decades. Despite the warring parties signing a peace deal in late 2022, conflict has continued to spread within Ethiopia. That has caused life-saving aid deliveries to be suspended—even as extreme weather continues to leave many Tigrayans in need of support.
Our team wanted to share a reflection from our partner Meseret Humanitarian Organization (MHO) about the impact of your ongoing generosity:
“MHO recalls with great pride and sense of gratitude that GlobalGiving and its partners have been financing grant donations for [the] affected and needy in Ethiopia. We are happy to report that MHO continues to work actively and continues to deliver … items such as food rations and water/sanitation with a major focus on women and children and rehabilitation and population support.”
Meseret Humanitarian Organization continues to respond to the immediate emergency needs of people displaced in northern Ethiopia. This includes providing safe housing for internally displaced persons in their rehabilitation shelter, providing hygiene kits and food, as well as psychosocial support services. We are happy to share that our last grant from the Tigray Famine and Crisis Relief Fund went to this GlobalGiving partner that is making a difference in the everyday lives of those impacted by the war.
You can find a full list of nonprofits that received a grant from the Tigray Famine and Crisis Relief Fund at the end of this report.
Your support of the GlobalGiving Tigray Famine and Crisis Relief Fund has advanced community-led recovery, and it means teams like Meseret Humanitarian Organization received critical resources to help their community during the most difficult months of the war in the Tigray region of Ethiopia.
This fund is no longer accepting donations, and this will be the last fund report of this kind from our team. However, GlobalGiving will continue to support its partners across Ethiopia through our East Africa Hunger Relief Fund.
We hope you’ll stay in touch, consider supporting our East Africa Hunger Relief Fund, or consider supporting one of our nonprofit partners listed below that continue to serve communities as they grapple with the impacts of this devastating war. They will need your support and solidarity to continue the long journey to full recovery and lasting peace.
With gratitude,
Kyra + the GlobalGiving Team
