It is hard to believe that it has been 10 years since the events of 9/11 took place in 2001. That day’s events still weigh heavily on our hearts and minds as we remember loved ones lost. Despite those sentiments, however, the Safer World Fund was created as a way to make a positive statement about what September 11th means to people, break down the extremism and fear on which terrorism survives, and help provide education and health care to those who need it.
This year, the Safer World Fund will be supporting a group of highly effective projects in Afghanistan and Pakistan that focus on providing schooling and health care for the Afghan and Pakistani citizens, with a particular focus on women and girls. And starting September 11, 2011, there are $50,000 of matching funds available to the Safer World Fund and each of its beneficiary projects on GlobalGiving. Donations to any of those projects will be matched at 50% until funds are depleted, with a $1,000 matching limit per donor per project, and a $15,000 matching limit per project overall. You can view all participating projects and matching funds remaining here: http://www.globalgiving.org/leaderboards/safer-world.
Please join us in creating opportunities for people in Afghanistan and Pakistan. We think the stability and prosperity of these countries, and the security of our own, depend on it.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
