The Lighthouse Baby Shelter was founded in June 2008 by Eleanor Dustan. Eleanor has taken care of these abandoned children who range from little babies up to 16 years of age since that time. The need is still huge in this country for children who have been abandoned, abused, neglected, and orphaned. She is committed to all the children, of which currently there are 15 in her care. This campaign plus donations from another donor from VMware on this platform, helped raise enough funds for solar panels to be installed as Johannesburg suffers from load shedding and the Lighthouse's invertor needed the solar panels. We also installed a gas stove so that the Shelter is not as reliant on electricity to cook the children's food. Winter blankets were also bought which helped with the cold at night. With the help of the GlobalGiving platform and contributions, we helped The Lighthouse Baby Shelter make an enormous difference in the lives and the quality of the lives of these children over the 2023 winter period.
