This report highlights Twende's initiatives since the year 2025 has started. We are working to empower girls and women in Tanzania through technology and innovation. We are actively bridging the gender gap in STEM fields by providing access to training, mentorship, and resources.
Program Highlights:
STEM Club: Introduced 35 primary school girls to STEM concepts and inspired them to consider STEM careers through engaging activities like lighting up LED bulbs.
Innovation Club (School of St. Jude): Reached and trained 17 secondary school girls, focusing on design thinking, design challenges, and exposure to successful women innovators to encourage them to pursue STEM fields.
Creative Capacity Building: Trained 22 women, in collaboration with male participants, to develop practical skills in tech innovation and address community challenges through hands-on creation of tech prototypes (potato planters, onion planters, potato processors, vegetable dryers).
Design for Second Life Innovation: In partnership with MIT D-Lab, KOICA, and Samsung, 8 young women (recent graduates and college students) gained valuable skills in an ICT workshop, developing digital solutions like a vein viewer and a safe car overtaking mechanism.
Success Story:
Meriana Charles, a food processing entrepreneur, joined a Creative Capacity Building workshop and built a garlic-peeling machine that significantly increased her efficiency, allowing her to expand her business and inspire young girls at our makerspace.
Next Move: Techpreneur
Twende is partnering with Australian Aid to launch Techpreneur, an initiative to empower 75 women and girls from marginalized communities. This program will provide technical innovation and business skills training, access to a makerspace, and dedicated business mentorship.
Twende's programs are making significant strides in empowering women and girls in Tanzania through technology and innovation. We are committed to continuing and expanding our impact for years to come.
