Empowering the Next Generation of Female Tech Leaders in Tanzania

By EPIFANIA WILBARD | DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS

Over the past three weeks, we've made significant progress in our mission to empower girls and women in Tanzania through technology and innovation education. Our focus remains on fostering creative problem-solving and entrepreneurship, and we've achieved this through a variety of impactful programs:

Creative Capacity Building Workshops: We conducted workshops reaching 25 women, where they learned design thinking, identified community challenges, and developed tech-based solutions.

Innovation Clubs: Our ongoing Innovation Clubs are engaging 16 girls in schools, providing a space for hands-on learning, experimentation, and mentorship.

Mentorship Program: In collaboration with Venture Capital for Africa (VC4A), we connected 3 female mentors with aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs to provide guidance and support.

Technology Exhibitions and Competitions: We organized events, including the Twende Decade of Impact celebration, to showcase girls' and women's tech projects, boosting their confidence and encouraging further exploration.

Partnerships: We collaborated with Women in Agro-Enviro Vision (WAEV) and The Girls Foundation Of Tanzania (TGFT) to equip girls and women with problem-solving skills, aiming to reduce the technology development gap in our society.

Impact:

Our programs have led to:

Increased technological literacy and confidence among girls and women

Development of innovative solutions to local challenges

Enhanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills

Increased participation of girls and women in STEM fields

Fostered entrepreneurial mindsets and the creation of new businesses

Challenges:

We continue to address challenges such as:

Limited access to technology and internet connectivity in some areas

Socio-cultural barriers that may discourage girls and women from pursuing STEM fields

The need for ongoing support and mentorship to ensure sustained engagement

Next Steps:

We plan to:

Expand the program to reach more girls and women in underserved communities

Develop advanced training programs in specific tech areas (e.g., coding, robotics)

Strengthen partnerships to leverage resources and expertise

Track the long-term impact of the program on participants' lives and careers

Conclusion:

We're making significant strides in empowering girls and women in Tanzania through technology and innovation education. By providing access to knowledge, resources, and mentorship, we're fostering a new generation of female leaders and problem-solvers who are driving positive change in their communities.
