Teach 400 Indigenous Children: Justice in Colombia

Zenu indigenous children are beginning to bridge the technological gap by learning to produce their own videos and other content for social networks. In videos made with smartphones, they present a vision of the reality experienced by the majority of children in their regions: mistreatment, physical and psychological abuse, hunger and malnutrition, low self-esteem, fears and lack of communication.
Beginning to break down these barriers established by traditional culture is a great step forward for children participating in the project who already know their rights, feel empowered to promote and defend them and know how to say NO to attempts at abuse and violence against them by adults around them.
Children in the project use media such as radio. They participate in school radio stations, indigenous and community radio stations.
On the CEPALC YouTube channel, you can see some content produced by these indigenous children and by other groups of children in the country with whom we also carry out training processes.

Children from different communities have received training in media such as radio, theater, video, and puppets, emphasizing children's rights and human rights in general. Children have set up school radio stations and actively participate in programming on the indigenous radio station "Positiva Estéreo." Some of them are members of theater and music groups, denouncing violations of human rights, women's rights, children's rights, and environmental destruction in their works.

We are working so that these children systematize all their experiences in school, rights and audiovisual production that turns these children's groups into social leaders of their communities.

We are also emphasizing that children become guardians and protectors of the environment that surrounds them. Let them begin to be aware of the very serious problems that climate change has for the continuity of our life on the planet.
In collaboration with indigenous schools, we have developed initiatives to properly manage waste, make intelligent use of product recycling, and plant new trees.
