Dear Supporters,
Thank you for your support over the past few months! Because of you, we can continue training teachers and delivering books to schools, helping Indonesian children develop a love for reading!
Testing in Jakarta’s Urban Poor areas
In the last quarter of 2024, we had the opportunity to work in one of our focus areas – the Urban Poor in Jakarta. In just one week, we tested the reading levels of all students in two primary schools and provided each school with a "Library in a Box." As a result of this testing, teachers now have a clearer understanding of which students need extra support. We were also able to offer the schools advice on how to improve their reading instruction. We hope this data will help us better understand the situation and enable us to conduct more tests and launch additional programs in Jakarta this year, as there is a big need for quality reading education, especially in the poorer areas of this city.
Webinar with national partner
On Tuesday 11 February, we will have the very first Saya Suka Membaca webinar for teachers. This is a big milestone for us, as it’s a new area for us. We are grateful for the opportunity, and together with a national partner, we will introduce teachers to the SSM method and provide them with practical tools they can use right away. Our goal is to support them in their crucial work of teaching children to read and sharing a love for reading. As you can imagine, we’re excited to meet all these teachers digitally and learn together!
Expanding our network
Once again, thank you for supporting Saya Suka Membaca—we couldn’t do this important work without you! Please feel free to share this update with anyone who might be interested in supporting literacy in Indonesia and the work we’re doing at Saya Suka Membaca. We’d love to connect with new individuals or organisations who can help us expand our reach and grow our programs.
Ayo! Suka Membaca!
Salam Literasi
